A very small app to help one remember people's birthdays
bub.club →Several years ago I was struggling to keep up with my friends’ birthdays, kids birthdays etc. as we developed our own lives further away from each other. In fact I first wrote about it in 2021.
I’ve been off Facebook for many years, and as such had no way to be reminded. What started off as an Airtable automation grew gradually into an app. It’s now a fully functioning birthday reminder app that I use daily, with vague plans to be more.
In 2025 I started building an iOS app. It got all the way to a testflight build, before stalling once again. Then in 2026, what originally started as a shift of the back end away from Heroku towards cloudflare workers (basically a complete rewrite over a weekend to save me £20 a month in server costs) resulted in an MCP server and Whatsapp replatform.
You can now chat to Bub entirely through whatsapp. It’s extremely convenient, and completely free.
Maybe in the future I’ll do more again. Maybe not. In the meantime let Bub help you with your birthday reminders here.
